Making the Front Pockets
Pin the pocket linings on the wrong way and sew them in place with a simple straight stitch. | |
Flip the pocket linings around the right way and pin them from the top making sure the denim edge overlaps the lining a little to prevent it from showing. | |
Sew them in place from the top. Sew a row close to the edge. | |
Use the first row of stitches as a guide for another row bellow the first.
Make sure your row spacing is consistent throughout the jeans to maintain a professional look. |

Pin the pocket facing in place over the lining. | |
Make sure that it will line up properly with the rest of the jeans by folding the pocket temporarily in place. | |
Unfold the pocket lining and stitch the facing in place using a wide stitch of your choice.
Instead you may want to surge around the bottom of the pocket facing first then stitch it on with a straight stitch. This would better prevent fraying. |

Fold the edges of the pockets over about œ'' and carefully press them in placedon't burn your fingers! | |
Cut a small triangle of fabric out from each corner at the top of the pocket. This will make the pocket less bulky after the next fold. | |
Fold the top edge of the pockets over again about another œ'' make sure to keep this in mind when making your pattern. | |
Stitch two rows of stitches from the outside of the pocket along the top.
The picture shows what the inside of the pocket should look like, but stitch from the outside. |

Pin the coin pocket in place and make sure it looks right when the pocket is folded in place. Sew it on along the outer edge first.
Be careful not to sew the top shut. |

Sew a second row of stitches along the inside of the first row using the first row as a guide.
I got a little creative and extended the stitches to the top of the jeans on the left side. Some jean manufacturers actually do this. If you are not using rivets now is a good time to add dense zigzags to the top corners of the pocket. |

Pin the pocket lining in place making sure both sides line up. | |
Surge along the edge of the lining. | |
Sew a dense row of straight stitches along the inside of the surged edge to reinforce the pocket. Surged edges will come loose easily if you dont.
Some sewing machines have a stretch straight stitch. This works very well for this because it is a very dense stitch. |

You only need to sew the pocket until you get to the edge of the denim. | |
